When you swallow food it goes into your tummy where it is mixed with a very strong acid which makes the food go all sloppy.  

When it is really runny, it goes into your intestines which are very long tubes all curled up inside your tummy.  Here, all the goodness in the food can get into your blood to feed your body.

Anything that's left is pushed out of your body - and that includes any smelly gas which might have been made!
